MUST BE SUMMER!
So We Have to Say Goodbye...
It’s official….. It must be summer. School is out,
Swimming pools are open, the saguaros are blooming, the green is turning to
brown, and the last Shooting Snow bird left for Montana!
Susan
and Don Turner packed up their stuff the end of May, loaded their pony and headed out
to Flathead Lake. Most of our winter shooters seem to leave after the EXPO
shoot the end of March. They head on up to Nationals and then back to their
northern homes. But a few stay on for a while longer. Wes and Bobbie Walton
head out the first of May (to their Lone Tree Bible Ranch in Wyoming where
they hold camps all summer) and then the Turners leave.
It gets kind of lonely
here when everyone leaves. It reminds me of that melancholy scene in
“Gidget” when Sandra Dee and James Darren go back to the beach at the end of
the summer and it is deserted and quiet, everyone gone back to their other
lives…… Just the timing is different. Here it is Winter that is a buzz with
horses, shooters, clinics and competitions.
Seems like every year
we have more people finding out about Arizona and our incredible winter
weather! Having some place like the Ben Avery Mounted Shooting Facility and the
Royce W. Anderson Family Arena will just keep more coming. Can you imagine what
we will have when the RV spots and Arena cover are in? What a place!!!
But not everyone
leaves. We have an abundant number of Shooters that are permanent residents.
We make our home here all four seasons of the year. We are resilient. We get
up very early, ride our horses, run, clean stalls, and other outside chores
before the temperature reaches over 110 degrees! Many of our shooters have
demanding outside jobs that continue on no matter what the temperature is. We
continue to practice and have competitions. We just travel a little more to
cooler places, up in the mountains for most of them. Shade is premium.
Next summer with a cover on the Anderson Arena, more practices and competitions
can be held right here in this HOT Valley!
So Goodbye to our
Winter shooters and here is to all the Arizona Shooters out there that tough it
out the whole year, Blazing Hot Summers and all! I raise a glass of Cold Ice
Tea to you and will see you throughout the next coming months!
And here is to Air
Conditioning…….

SOME WEBSITE FEEDBACK
One all the Way from Japan!
For me being your
webmaster is an act of service to our club. I don’t do it for gratitude or
accolades but occasionally I get emails and some feedback that really makes what
I do fun!
One email came from a
Mounted Shooter in Japan! They even have their own website devoted to the
sport. Unless you read Japanese you will be lost but visit it anyway and take
look at the pictures!
Japanese Lonestars.
The following are some excerpts from emails I have received. Thanks for
the Props!

A word
about the ACMSA website.
Whoever does that has the most interesting format. I don't think I've ever seen
any website so well put together, so professional and yet so personal. I think
it's just fascinating, and I am in awe.

YOUR BIGGEST 09/10 MOUNTED SHOOTING
Accomplishment is?
What was your biggest Mounted Shooting Win
or Accomplishment in 2009 or 2010? Every shooter has one.
Maybe it was your first buckle win, first Sharpshooter award, a move
up win, making Top Ten, a High Point Award or an Overall win. Or
maybe it was just getting back in the saddle after a bad horse
wreck! This sport is just so appealing because it is goal oriented. We set goals
for ourselves,
accomplish them and then we raise the bar. Share you latest accomplishment and support the Arena at Ben Avery at the same time. We are in the middle of our annual Brick drive.
A special
bonus, everyone who buys an accomplishment brick,
will have their name put into a drawing at
the 2010 Arizona State Competition for a
JM PhotoArt Canvas
production of your favorite shooting picture.
So order your brick today.
Billy and I ordered ours!!!
